Designed with flexibility in mind, participants progress through 12 engaging learning modules at their own pace within a 60-day period. This nationally recognized course has been methodically developed to empower trauma registry professionals by equipping them with state-of-the-art skills and indispensable knowledge. Participants will engage in sessions that seamlessly blend comprehensive lectures, real-world case studies, and valuable take-home materials. This course includes a pre-test, session quizzes, and a post-test to measure course impact.
 

Key Learning Areas:
Upon successful completion of the Trauma Registry Course, participants will acquire the following capabilities:
  1. Comprehensive Registry Understanding: Identify the foundational components of a trauma registry, including hardware and software elements.

  2. Trauma Data Dictionaries and Data Standards: Identify the essential components of data dictionary standards, including patient inclusion criteria, definitions, field values, and requisite associated elements.

  3. Scaling and Scoring Competence: List the fundamental principles underpinning various scaling and scoring tools used within trauma programs.

  4. Accurate Record Review and Abstraction Skills: Describe the process of reviewing and abstracting medical records and basic Inter-Rater Reliability (IRR) audit principles.

  5. Coding Distinctions and Comprehensive Documentation Emphasis: Differentiate between coding for reimbursement and injury severity, while recognizing the pivotal role of comprehensive documentation for trauma registry effectiveness.

  6. Exploration of ICD-10 Coding Practice and Significance in the Trauma Registry: Demonstrate the procedure of assigning diagnosis, procedure, and external cause codes within the ICD-10 coding system and clarify their contextual importance.

  7. Diverse Data Presentation and Confidentiality Mastery: Identify various methods of data presentation, reporting, and data confidentiality.

  8. Collaborative Process and Quality Enhancement: Identify multidisciplinary members of a trauma quality and process improvement committee and discuss methodology for process and quality improvement.

Continuing Education:


Upon successful course completion, participants will earn continuing education credits as follows:

The Trauma Center Association of America is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 16459 for approved 13.0 contact hours. The certificate must be retained for 4 years after the date of issue. Nurses should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
