SAFER Grant Award & Conference Announcement

On behalf of the Coalition for National Trauma Research (CNTR) we are pleased to share  that AHRQ awarded funding for the CNTR Equity Diversity and Inclusion Committee’sSummit for the Advancement of Focused Equity Research in Trauma (SAFER-Trauma), and it is now scheduled for August 2-3, 2023 at the American College of Surgeons. I am sending along these links to the announcement, the registration page, and the travel award application so that you can share them with your membership as you see fit. All of your members are welcome to attend the conference virtually at no cost. 

This conference will convene a multi-disciplinary team of stakeholders around equity and trauma research, with emphasis on supporting researchers from groups historically excluded from biomedical research.

The goal of the SAFER-Trauma is to provide stakeholders and researchers in the trauma community with the knowledge, tools, and collaborative relationships to plan and carry out studies to reduce inequities surrounding trauma care in the United States. Our Specific Aims are as follows:

Aim 1: Characterize current gaps regarding health equity research in trauma
Aim 2: Identify funding mechanisms and pathways for collaboration
Aim 3: Outline a research agenda to address inequities in trauma

In an effort to grow the pipeline of a diverse group of investigators and spur new grant applications, early-stage investigators interested in equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in trauma are encouraged to apply for a travel award to cover the cost of airfare, meals, and lodging (up to $1,500). Registration fees will also be covered. Up to four awards will be granted, depending on budget and space considerations.
