SGR and Health Reform Action Likely in New Congress

The Affordable Care Act, the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula for physician reimbursement under Medicare, and reauthorization of the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) are all likely targets for action in the new Republican-controlled Congress, several health policy experts said Wednesday.  They note, Congress has agreed on the basic elements of how to repeal the SGR and replace it with another system -- except on how to pay for it.  In addition to the SGR, the ACA will be in for congressional scrutiny next year.  Other potentially vulnerable parts of the law include the device tax, CHIP reauthorization and the Independent Payment Advisory Board (a group that is supposed to advise Congress on spending cuts in the Medicare program).  Click here to read more.....
