The American Trauma Society’s – Trauma Registry and Data Council (TRDC) Presents a Trauma Registrar Educational Webinar on Monday, July 18th 2016 from 1:00-2:00pm EST

"Data Validation for Trauma Registrars

Cost: FREE for Members / $25 for Non-Members

The American College of Surgeons states “The data in a trauma registry can be used in a variety of ways. These ways define the purpose at a given hospital.” Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient: pg 63 1999, Committee on Trauma American College of Surgeons

Most often the primary purpose of a trauma registry is identified as being performance improvement with secondary purposes of research and data analysis. Whether one is attempting to execute appropriate performance improvement measures, perform research or conduct data analysis, it is necessary to ensure valid data exists within the registry. The old adage “garbage in, garbage out” is applicable with the trauma registry and the value of the registry is directly proportionate to the validity of the data contained within the registry and the ability to transform that data into meaningful information.

Four key processes to validate data are:
1. Single variable validation
2. Multiple-variable validation (also known as logic processes)
3. Test/Retest validation
4. Inter-rater reliability

This course will define how to identify components of each type of validation process and components to creating a validation policy.

Course Objectives
The user will be able to identify:
1. Components for each type of validation
2. Appropriate use of each validation process
3. Steps in creating a validation process policy

This session has been approved for 1 hour of CEU credit towards CTSR Recertification in Category (III) Coding and Scoring Concepts
