Course Description

This symposium is designed to help health care providers caring for injured and critically ill trauma patients navigate the complex, dynamic, and time sensitive process. The two-day program will combine the expertise of the American College of Surgery Level
I Trauma Center at Westchester Medical Center, the Level I Pediatric Trauma Center
at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, and additional external faculty to discuss current coordinated, multidisciplinary approaches to trauma care using evidenced-based clinical guidelines. This includes an educational forum for trauma professionals to share, discuss and learn methods for resuscitation, surgical techniques, and reduction of complications, infection control, trauma systems development, rehabilitation and ethics for both adults and children.


Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the CME activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Recall current advances in trauma system development and application to practice.

  2. Recognize state-of-the-art interventions for trauma patients.

  3. Employ evidence-based best-medical practices in daily management of traumatically injured adult and pediatric patients

Target Audience

This educational program is designed for Healthcare and other professionals involved in management of trauma patients/systems including:

• Physicians/Surgeons (Trauma, ED, Pediatrics, Anesthesia, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery)

• Trauma, ED, ICU, Peri-operative, Flight/Transport, Pediatric Nurses

• Emergency Medical Services,

• Injury Prevention, Performance Improvement Coordinators and Trauma Registrars

• Trauma Systems Development and other Emergency Responders (Fire, Police, etc.)
