TIEP was established by the American Trauma Society in the fall of 2000 with funding from the CDC/National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC). TIEP’s mission has been to foster the exchange and use of information to improve trauma care. Over its ten-year history, TIEP has accomplished the following:
- Created the first national trauma center inventory.
- Developed and implemented trauma center mapping, used in Trauma Resource Allocation Model for Ambulances and Hospitals (TRAMAH)
- Developed strategic partnerships of those vested in trauma care.
- Established “Trauma Watch,” an industry publication that provides timely information about the state of the trauma care system to practitioners and researchers every month.
TIEP has been cited in research, professional presentations, IOM studies, and Congressional reports, and it has been used frequently by several federal agencies (CDC, AHRQ, NHTSA, NLM, and more). Its name has become synonymous in the field as a center for trauma system information. Importantly, TIEP has provided one important piece of the foundation for the development and deployment of an integrated and regionalized trauma care system.
