The ATS Physicians’ Council introduces the seventh year of Requests for Proposals for scientific studies in the efficacy of trauma prevention programs for the next cycle, 2003/2004. The deadline for receipt of all grant proposals for this cycle will be January 3, 2004. At least one member of the principal investigator team must be a Physician Member of the American Trauma Society. The following points should be addressed in the research proposal: identification of the trauma problem and review of trauma prevention programs pertinent to the problem; summary of relevant research of the problem including past and current statistical trends; a well-developed hypothesis to be tested; a well-designed methodology (including controls and test groups); and, provisions for careful statistical analysis. In addition, there should be a detailed budget and a time line for conducting and completing the study. Examples of one or more trauma prevention research grant proposals which have been funded by the American Trauma Society can be obtained by sending an e-mail to dgell@amtrauma.org. By the deadline of January 3, 2004, an original plus five copies of the grant proposal should be submitted to: Physicians’ Council, American Trauma Society, 7611 South Osborne Road, Suite 202, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772.
