Legislative Changes to ICD-10, MU Likely Dead for Now

A massive spending bill to fund almost all of the federal government for fiscal 2015, as reported from committees, does not contain language to delay the ICD-10 compliance date or impose a 90-day EHR meaningful use reporting period in 2015.  The House and Senate have two days to debate and pass the legislation before funding for the government ends on Dec. 11. If the congressional term ends without action on ICD-10 and meaningful use, the issues can be reconsidered in the new term that starts in January.  And early in the term, Congress again will consider changes to the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate formula for paying physicians. Last year’s SGR fix included a one-year ICD-10 delay to October 2015.  (Health Data Management - Dec. 10, 2014)
