TITLE: Trauma Registrar
HOURS: 40 Hours / Days (Mon - Fri)
SETTING: Hospital (Level I Trauma Center)
REPORTS TO: Manager
LOCATION: Springfield, MA (USA)
JOB SUMMARY:
The trauma registrar is an integral part of the Hospitals Level I Trauma Team responsible for the daily collection and management of the trauma registry database. The multi-disciplinary trauma team relies on the trauma registry to support patient quality and performance improvement initiatives and submit data to state and national entities.
Primary trauma registrarΏs role is the collection, abstraction and entering of clinical data for all trauma patient admitted to or evaluated by the trauma service. Data will be entered into a pre-defined database (Trauma One) to ensure the hospital remains compliant with all standards as they relate to Joint Commission, American College of Surgeons, National Trauma Data Base and our Adult Level I accreditation.
Registrar reviews multiple medical records in both hard copy and electronic formats, and will abstract basic patient demographics, clinical procedures, clinical and diagnostic results.
Registrar accurately codes each, utilizing the AIS Abbreviated Injury Scale, ICD-9 and CPT coding tools.
Registrar is responsible for assisting team with documentation and management of the registry database as it relates to clinical research, benchmarking and accreditation.
Registrar develops and produces timely reports as requested by administration and/or the American College of Surgeons for accreditation initiatives and re-verification.
Registrar is also an integral part of the hospital and trauma Performance Improvement initiatives, and as such, is responsible for maintaining Performance Improvement agendas, schedules, minutes and integration of information from those meeting into the registry for loop closure.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Prefer 3-5 years direct experience as a Level I -or- II Trauma Registrar.
High School Diploma required; College Degree in nursing or related studies preferred
Demonstrated strong understanding of medical terminology, medical record content, anatomy and physiology, and coding experience required
Exceptional data entry and computer skill sets required
Strong data entry skills required
Coding experience with AIS Abbreviated Injury Scale, ICD-9 and CPT coding tools required
Ability to review and understand medical terminology, and to be able to extract and interpret medical information from both electronic and paper medical records required
Must be reliable, dependable, and able to initiate and complete projects of moderate complexity with limited supervision
Multi-tasking, detail oriented, and the ability to prioritize activities are a must
Ability to analyze data contained in medical records, for use in the Trauma Service's PI and Quality initiatives
Certified Trauma Registrar preferred
LPN or RN preferred
Numeric and Alpha Numeric Data Entry Testing required
