Job Description

The Trauma Registrar will maintain the efficient operation of the Trauma Patient Registry for UPMC's International and Commercial Services Division partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation in Doha, Qatar. Works in conjunction with HMC trauma service employees to further train and develop their staff and program. Ensure consistency and quality in the data collection system. Identification of trauma patient, admissions, abstracting, coding and entering information into the trauma database. Retrieval of data for quality assurance purposes. Work closely with the Trauma Surgeon and Trauma Nurse Coordinator. Also interacts with Medical Records, Information Services personnel, and patient unit staff. This position will require the incumbent to work as an expatriate in Doha, Qatar for a minimum of one year.

Graduate of an accredited record technician program with two to three years coding and/or abstracting experience. Or minimum Associate's Degree in a health related field with three to five years coding and/or abstracting experience. Demonstrated knowledge of medical record content, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology is required. Prior experience in ICD-9 coding is required. Abbreviated Injury Scoring (AIS) is desirable. Demonstrated experience in computer data entry, databases, and data retrieval is desirable. A Bachelors degree and International work experience is highly preferred.
