One of the committee's responsibilities is to prepare for National Trauma Awareness Month (NTAM) each May. The NTAM Working Group, made up of ATS IPC members as well as members of the Society of Trauma Nurses, researches injury prevalence and related prevention issues and develops an injury prevention agenda and programs that are then made available to ATS and STN members for rollout in March for use during the entire year. The committee meets year-round by teleconference, and is open to all ATS members with an interest in injury prevention.

The Injury Prevention Committee is now taking on more projects, including those in the right column of this page. Committee conference call meetings will be scheduled regularly and posted here.

National Trauma Awareness Month

The NTAM Subcommittee prepares data-driven prevention materials for use by trauma centers and other hospitals year round, but especially during National Trauma Awareness Month, which was designated through the efforts of ATS as May of every year. The group, a collaboration of ATS, STN, and others, meets monthly, and occasionally more frequently in February and March.

Traumaroo

Traumaroo is an award winning childhood prevention program, which has presented safety information to hundreds of thousands of school-age children since its inception. Traumaroo is always looking for more volunteers to help get the message out!!

Prevention Webinars

Many members of the Injury Prevention Committee have expressed an interest in developing Injury Prevention Webinars that could be presented to Trauma Prevention Coordinators and others via the web, reaching thousands of prevention professionals. Some of these Webinars could be developed and presented in collaboration with colleagues from other prevention-focused organizations.

Development and/or Assessment of Model Injury Prevention Programs

Prevention programs can be hard to develop, and even more difficult to evaluate--how do you evaluate a negative consequence?? Many committee members are interested in tackling this challenging issue head-on!
