Data Subcommittee
The purpose of the Data Subcommittee of the American Trauma Registry
Council is to address issues related to data, information, and confidentiality.
We have developed a confidentiality statement as a guide for registrars
to use when there are requests for data from the registry. This
statement is useful to protect the patients, the hospital and the
registrars. This project showed the vision of this group as the
HIPPAA regulations are now being implemented. The project we are
currently working on is the development of a data dictionary to
provide consistency of data being collected, entered and submitted.
This committee has representatives from across the nation and we
all bring our ideas and experience with the goal of having a standard,
uniform data set with well defined data elements. As we move toward
national Trauma System development we need to be consistent with
our data to provide timely and accurate information. With this information
we can more readily address prevention issues and legislative changes
to assist those providing
trauma care for the "neglected disease" of trauma.
