American Trauma Registry Council Business Meeting

April 28, 2005

I.   Looking for 6-15 people to for a Steering Committee (no more officers)

  • For those 6-15 people, ATS Board of Directors to contact their Manager/Trauma Coordinator to ask for employee’s time to assist with ATS (i.e. 1 hour a week)
  • Possible compensation of free conference admission
  • Sign up sheet for those interested passed around
  • Function of this Steering Committee
  1. Resource to National Office
  2. Planning seminars and educational offerings during the year, and for the main conference
    1. Topics related to Trauma Registrars or trauma registries
  3. Oversee sub-committees (currently 3 sub-committees)
    1. Research & Publication
      1. Public relations
      2. Website maintenance
      3. Continuing Education
        1. Solicit articles from different  authors on related topics
        2. Write article questions for post test
      4. Traumagram
    2. Education & Credentialing
      1. Solicit questions for the certification exam, assist if needed for item review and / or exam review sessions as deemed necessary
    3. Data
      1. Will assist the American College of Surgeons with a Trauma Registrar survey.
      2. Will promote the new NTDB data definitions when released

II.  Looking for ~2 people to help with courses

  • Need registrars to help teach the course – materials are already prepared
  • Need support of your institution and able to travel to 2 courses per year.  
  1. Evaluate courses
    1. Are we covering necessary topics?
  2. Update ~16-24 months
    1. Basic course rewritten
    2. Advanced course is in need of being revamped

III.  Top priority of council to increase professional awareness of trauma registrars.

  1. Internally (ATS)
    1. Trauma Coordinator advocate for our group
    2. ATS Board of Directors
    3. Solicit membership, therefore increasing knowledge base
    4. Advertise more
      1. Seminars
      2. Certification Exam
      3. Continuing Education
      4. Looking at trauma data & its importance
      5. How to advertise?
    5. Utilize web more
      1. Possible Web-casts – meetings, lectures
  2. Externally
    1. ACS joint efforts, and potential acknowledgement in the optimal care manual 
    2. Cheryl  Anderson – HRSA
      1. Participate in the National Trauma Leadership Meeting annually
    3. c.  Society for Trauma Nurses

IV.  Shari Zougras Scholarship to participate in ATS Conference & Registrar Council

  • Nominated by Trauma Coordinator
  • Need to advertise better

V.  May in National Trauma Awareness Month

  • Recognition day for Trauma Coordinator/Trauma Registrars
